I wonder if the socks are located in the clothing areas of Walmart (men's/women's/children's).

I also wonder if there really IS a Lego dinosaur or if they just show that dinosaur
to get people's attention for the socks.

Early this morning, out doing some shopping, and spied this LEGO endcap at WalMart.
On the side was a dino and images of LEGO socks. They were not in the endcap,
nor on the LEGO aisle. Has anyone seen these in stores ? Youth or Adult sizes
? I don't see these in the Catalog.

I'm hoping someone with Dacta catalogs from the mid(?) 1990's (perhaps
1993 - 1997) can help.

I recently acquired a somewhat obscure Control Lab set:

Set No: 2001188 Name: Let's Go, First Computer Control Literature and Software Pack
*
2001188-1 Let's Go, First Computer Control Literature and Software Pack
1995
Sets: Educational & Dacta
which I am in the process of creating the catalog inventory for. There don't
appear to be any references to this set of most of the other standard sites (e,g,
brickset, peeron) and the only image I could find of this set was at http://www.miniland.nl/Dacta/sets/2001187.htm.
The set in question is the set in the yellow case at the rear of the photo.

Via the wayback machine, I've had a trawl through LEGO's various sites
and have had no joy in finding any image for this set. Based on what I have found,
my presumption is that this set would have been listed in a Dacta catalog from
sometime in the mid-1990s - it may be that this set only was for sale in the
UK/Europe, although that is speculation on my behalf.

I was wondering whether anybody with Dacta catalogs from the mid-1990's would
be willing to take a look through their catalogs to see if they can find an image
for the set. My photo skills are "lacking" and if an image for the set is available
in a catalog, it will likely be better than any photo I add. If you do find an
image for the set, would you please submit it as the image for this set. I'd
also appreciate it if you would send me a copy of the image too please, as I
would like to be able to add this set to rebrickable.com.

Thank you and regards,

David

I recently bought YELLOW axles 50450 from a dealer on Bricklink offering them
in quantities at a reasonable price.

After arriving I noticed these axles being a bit lighter of colour. Because the
are more colour varieties I wasn't alarmed directly.

But when I looked a bit closer to the axles I also noticed the 'cross'
on the edge of the axle was a bit less sharp. I think normally there is a dimple
at one of the ends- these axes don't have one.

The combination of a quantity offer of this part, the colour difference and the
slightly rougher shape raises some questions.

If it is original: Perfect. If it isn't: How could we stop this? I guess
99% of the customers won't notice.

Or is it simply the end of the premium prices for this sort of parts??
Or place a warning with a clear description of the original?

* Do they have similar clutch power to the other axles? This is the first thing
to test. If not, might be an indication that they are indeed fake.
* Newer 32L axles should have ©LEGO and a mould number on them - at one of the
ends. NO mould pip at the (other) end.
* No idea if this also concerns axles, but recently we have been finding a scary
amount of pieces to be manufactured from that new bio-plastic crap. Does the
surface of those axles feel the same, and do they sound the same?

Thanks! The white 32 clearly has LEGO, the yellow one doesn't have it. The
material is the same. Clutch power not tested yet. So the question is: Do all
original 32 axles have the LEGO sign. Main difference is the cross the 32 had
slightly undeeper grooves and the cross is between 0,50- 1 mm thicker.

Mine don't have the lego sign. Although they are not as fat looking as yours.
Mine are from 2013 #60004.

Thanks! Yes the fat cross is the big question. But anyway you can see how difficult
it is to find out what is original and what isn't...and this is a bit worrying.
I started the whole post because I am reselling the parts and I want to be sure
that I sell original parts, especially because these parts fetch a large premium.
And of course the idea of paying 90 Euro for 10 axles that maybe can be bought
from Ali for 2 Euro all 10... free postage..If this is the case I don't blame
the seller directly, because there may be more chains in the selling process..but
if it are really fake parts someone is making a giant profit...

Hi

I now also note that the white original LEGO axle has a flat somewhat lower recktangle
place with a dot in the middle on both sides of the end of the axle. The yellow
doesn't have this. But it could be another mold?

I have a couple of used, genuine of the 32 long axles.

They do not have dimples on the ends, they are flat ends. They also appear slightly
lighter than flat yellow parts but this might be an effect of the way light bounces
off them as they are a much smaller flat surface area compared to a tile for
example.

I sure won't win the photo competition and I hope it is clear.

Left: shorter yellow axle. Middle: the yellow 32 axle. Right: the white 32 axle.

Although the photo is not the best you can see that the yellow 32 has not ther
sharp cross the other axles have.

Hi

Colour: I did not compare them with yellow parts, but with the hunderds of yellow
AXLES in different lenght and coming from various sources I have in stock.

The dimple in the black or white axles I have is very tiny.

When I compare the cross of the white and black axle 32 with this of the yellow
ones, it is much sharper.I will try to make a photo.

We are sad to inform you that our Catalog Adminstrator StormChaser is no longer
part of the Community Expert Program.

Not sure why anyone is surprised about this. There was a big catalog dump that
was largely stormchaser’s baby and it was mostly cancelled at the last minute.
Was he frustrated, probably. Is this the first time he has left BL, no. This
might not be the last we see of stormchaser. He had big ambitions, but it looks
like he wasn’t given the freedom to execute his vision. Maybe BL was right to
not make too many catalog changes at once, but maybe not... Either way, when
you get paid to do a job, it’s important to do your best within the parameters
of that job. I’m just guessing, but I think he was just ahead of his time at
BL. All the best!

Did you check the packet throughly? Sometimes cloth elements can stick to the
inside of the bag or get caught in a corner.

We are pleased to announce that a major new feature was deployed to the catalog
today - Packing Dimensions!

Today the last bug was fixed for the new Packing Dimensions Project, Phase 1.
Contributors may now use the question mark link on the catalog detail page to
quickly and easily submit a missing Packaging Dimension (see Image 1).

Part No: 271pb05 Name: HO Scale, Accessory Policeman One Hand Left
*
271pb05 HO Scale, Accessory Policeman One Hand Left
Parts: HO 1:87 Vehicles
If the question mark isn't working as a link, it's not a bug - just go
to your Catalog Settings page and check the box (see Image 2):

Show Links to Add Weight and Dimensions

...and be sure to save your settings.

A full 7 months before the April 6 release of this feature, on Sep 6 of last
year I opened a new Forum Topic called Packing Dimensions X, to make it easier
to handle the large backlog of requests that had built up earlier in the year.

When I opened the topic, I actually asked people NOT to contribute except when
necessary:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1220218

As a matter of consideration, please don't add dimensions for parts with
every side under 20mm.

And then on Oct 6, I asked for the following:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1225859

...until we get a tool that goes through the normal approval channels (which
is coming in the next few weeks), please do not submit measurements for an entire
set of [300] decorated parts...

However, now that the tool is ready to use, I would like to officially remove
all restrictions from submitting Packing Dimensions. We are planning to open
up some other forms and give you some handy filters to find missing dimensions
- this will be in Phases 2 and 3. But for now, the paved road is finally open,
so drive on through!

I'd also like to include a little chart showing the effect of releasing this
tool (see Image 3). And we still have 4 more days to go in April.

I saw the blue ? before I saw the forum post. That should speed things up.

This is a contributor task, not an admin task...

You can add the part yourself here:

https://www.bricklink.com/wantedCatalog.asp?catType=P

and then the image here:

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogImageAdd.page?itemType=P

Then, the admins will review and approve it. Do you have a good image? I can
answer any questions if you run into problems.

They are already in the inventory, as regular and extra parts. This is similar

the Chinese sellers that do missing print / bad print parts was selling that
one a few years ago. I bought a lot of LOTR parts that were missing paint from
them but didn't really pay too much attention to the SW parts. I remember
that they had a lot of partially printed ewok heads.

Poe Dameron started out life as sw1144 - then was changed to sw0737a which caused
the problem:

In the meantime yoda was approved as sw1144 but we shouldn't reuse numbers
as it causes other problems.

So sw1144 now does to be left unused which is why yoda was moved.

But why was Yoda changed to sw1147, surely sw1144 was perfectly fine?

Still need no idea why the two figs changed codes though?

What happened to Star Wars minifig codes sw1144 & sw1146? Are we just skipping
numbers now, as neither of them exist!
I don’t get why Yoda was changed from sw1144 to sw1145 for no apparent reason?

I am a curious person. I am curious about this and think it is natural to be.
I am also often frustrated by obituaries that almost never tell what happened.
No, we don't DESERVE all the details, but I totally understand why people
would be curious.

I have enjoyed many collaborations with Stormchaser. He knows how I feel about
him. Whether on staff or not in the future, I hope he will continue to contribute.
If his life has changed and he doesn't have the time, maybe he will return
later. If his feelings have been hurt and he needs some time or never wants
to come back, I understand that. There is still a lot of work to do on the catalog,
but at the end of the day none of us do it unless it is fun. Some day I will
quit. Not soon, I think. Meanwhile there are some ugly old renders and some
some undetermined coconut trees, so I'm going back to work.

Submit it to the instructions entry for 40315-99. This is a special trick that
was created for gear sets that had instructions. Hopefully, all of these will
be sets come October so we won't have to worry about this anymore.

Ouch! You got me there: I harbor no good feelings toward the BL office. However,
I do generally admire your positivity and wish I had more of it. I used to look
on the better side of things and now I don't.

There's too many things that could be better if they chose to make them better.
This rankles me. I do try to be supportive and kind when I see genuine effort.
I help newbies, I support our admin, I contribute. So, I am incessant in wanting
things to be better. You're right. 'Denigrating' implies that I am
lashing out without cause. Is that fair?

I don't feel good about what happened. I think we are worse off. If I came
across as disingenuous, that was not my intent.
Take care,

There are two different types of transparency here though - transparency about
decisions concerning the catalogue and transparency about decisions concerning
employment (whether paid for or not).

They should clearly be transparent about decisions connected to the catalogue.
However, they should not be transparent about why someone is no longer doing
something they used to do. It could be a whole range of things, from wanting
payment for voluntary work, a difference of opinion over part movements or definitions,
things moving at the wrong speed, through to more personal reasons such as someone
deciding they cannot do it for employment or medical or family reasons or just
that they have done it long enough and want a break. Unless the person involved
wants to tell us, then I don't think we need to know the reasons. I don't
see that as a lack of transparency, just privacy.

The catalog didn't use to be this way. I was an admin for three years. We
were members and leaders and accountable to the community. For years now, when
you ask an admin for an explanation for a decision, you get one. Robert made
the system even better with published goals, definitions, plans, and community
discussion. Every move the BL office makes to move the catalog more toward them
and away from us is bad news. They are not accountable to us, have practically
no customer service, and have very little LEGO expertise among them. They didn't
build this catalog but they did buy it. So, there we are.

I've noticed for months that our admins, who have traditionally been some
of the most vocal people here on the Forum, are now largely silent. I doubt this
is a coincidence. I wouldn't speak for them, but I will speak for me. Whatever
the reason, the admins that work so hard and support our community have my respect
and support. I think we can all see from the XP site what our catalog would look
like without them.

Just because people are curious about it doesn't mean they are entitled to
the information. People have lives beyond BrickLink which details they rather
not share on BrickLink, it's perfectly fine you have to respect that.

It isn't about transparency, it doesn't change anything for the BrickLink
Catalog Admin team whether you know why two of their members left it.

If StormChaser wants to share the reasons of their departure, they'll do
it, in the meantime please stop prying.

Not giving such insights generally results in negative thoughts. Transparency
and clarity goes a long way!

  2) This gear has an "instructions" entry, but my set had no instructions in the
bag. Is this the correct way to handle this situation?

The instructions entry should be removed.

Oops. In other words, I found the instructions. How they ended up where they
did I can't guess.

So please recreate the instructions entry. They weigh 5.6 grams. I don't
see the possibility of setting a weight in the gear change form.

I'd like to include the dimensions of the instructions as well. Do I enter
the folded or unfolded size in the form?

Why?

The reason that a volunteer no longer volunteers is nothing to do with anyone
else. If the volunteer wants to say why then that's fine, but a company should
not give out such information without the volunteer knowing.

If you have a brand new copy to use for inventorying the set.

I bought a copy of the set ~2 months ago. As its my only Lego set, it would
be quite easy to figure out which parts belong to the set. Are there instructions
available what I need to do to add the partlist?

I am not 100% sure of the rules regarding having a new set in hand for an inventory.
An inventory admin will have to confirm. However, if you want to give it a go:

Start at the Add or Change page.

Choose: Add Inventory - Set

Enter your set number and Reserve Set (This gives you 3 days to start the inventory.)

Navigate back to this page and now Choose: Manual Add, enter your set number
and enter 1 in the Number of Entries

This will bring you to the Add Inventory page. A pop-up will come up asking if
you want to use the known data for the inventory. Click OK.

The fields will auto-populate with the generic LEGO data for the set. Read everything
there and then come back here with all your questions!

Forum members are usually happy to help new submitters.

It can’t be a move toward TLG/LDD’s naming conventions: they don’t exist!

It could be a move toward TLG/LDD’s categorization but
1. it’s not the intent, it could only be coincidental,
2. as seen in LDD, it’s rather simple (TLG uses more categories but LDD merges
a lot of them in its UI), so in the same way as a stick figure represents any
human and so any human can be recognized in the stick figure, any categorization
can look like LDD’s.

If this process is going to continue, then I'd strongly recommend wanted
list sorting have a new extra option of sorting by item category, then name...
not just item name. So that there's at least some way of getting back to
that original sort order.

(Most of the) names start with the category, so the sort is already half there.

Also, as the change was moving items between categories, even if the WLs were
sorted by Cat name » item name, the items would still have been sorted differently.

Maybe you could use more, smaller Wanted Lists instead of one (or a few) big
one(s)?  (You can buy from several WLs at once.)

Everything on this list has been moved except for the last two items:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2487

We ran into a brief hiccup with those item type changes, but we plan to get them
moved later today. Let us know if you see anything on the list we missed.

As some of you already noticed, the list of moved items is about 1/9th the proposed
size. For a variety of reasons, we weren't able to accomplish the other
changes. This does not necessarily mean they won't happen, but merely that
they aren't happening right now.

For our October 1st, 2021 list, we're doing things differently to reduce
confusion. We'll post a page for that soon and begin listing items between
now and then. We'll lock it down on September 1st and every single item
placed on the October 1st page will be moved.

For anyone wondering about this process, our goal was to reduce confusion about
where things belong in the catalog. The project consisted of two steps:

1. Define in writing what should be in each category.
2. Move parts as necessary to conform with written definitions.

We've completed step one, for the most part (although it's still being
tweaked here and there). Now we're working (slowly) through step two.

Let us know if you have any questions or comments.

Also, is it just my imagination, but it seems a lot of the recent category/name
changes are taking BL along the path towards the naming conventions used in LDD's
catalogue...

The idea of a larger-scale change conducted twice per year is working well and
is superior to occasional changes that are harder to draw everyone’s attention
to. So, the good news is that for the foreseeable future, we will shift categories
mainly at those times, with the current organizational structure.

...

2) The parts in the original April 1 list are much more common than those in
the previous list. There are some obscure and some common parts in both lists,
but as a whole, moving parts in the original April 1 list would have had an exponentially
larger impact. Even if we were ok with all of the changes, we would not want
to move this many at one time.

You seems to be favouring twice yearly large moves instead of smaller ones, but
then go on to say there were too many to move. What is the plan here, to roll
those over to the next move and possibly bumping other parts of that move if
the list becomes too long again?

That was exactly what I've been wondering for a while. The logic of not wanting
"too much" at one time escapes me. The more often things change, the messier
it is. I may open my main store back up once all of this is over (late 2022 or
so) in the meantime it's just too much chaos for me and not really worth
the hassle.

I'll say it's also been a massive hassle for me the last few days, thinking
I'm going more nuts than usual with my chemo.

I have several large wanted lists for long-term models that I'm slowly accreting
parts. One of them has minifigure parts for statues. I spent several hours today
trying to hunt down all these parts after changes. They used to all be grouped
together but now arms are in one page, the torsos are 5 pages on (with the 100-parts-per-page
setting) and so on.

This is going to be a massive nightmare for me to do something like order just
the minifigure parts. They're now no longer selectable in nearly one go.

Ditto the animals.

If this process is going to continue, then I'd strongly recommend wanted
list sorting have a new extra option of sorting by item category, then name...
not just item name. So that there's at least some way of getting back to
that original sort order.

Personally, I would wait as there seems to be a box error where you get 6 roadrunners,
but no wiley e. coyote. You can find info on Brickset and other Lego sites.

Minifigure Madness had the boxes, but they are currently out of stock. They
have a notify feature.

I would like to know where to buy a full box at retail price, where do stores
order from ?

According to the Lego (website), they are not released until April 26th. I expect
they will be in the catalog sometime after that date.
