Questions:
How are these parts 'handled' by the inventory admins?
Since many of these parts do not yet occur in regular sets, what's the BL
policy here?
What should we know when uploading new parts from BaM?

TL;DR
BaM = Build a Minifigure, an option to build a minifig in an official LEGO brand
store. You can choose from a collection of heads, legs, torso's, hair and
minifig utensils. Some of them were never released before in official sets.

Check inside the helmet for the LEGO brand name or copyright mark molded into
the plastic. If neither are there, it is definitely a clone.

Cheers,

  I loved the Goatleg search, when it was not attached to BL.

I go to goatleg.com, pick "legs Assembly" and it takes me to BL with a frame
at the top where I can choose the colors to search. There is no box to type
"other descriptions" to help narrow the field (it used to, and it does for torsos).

This is what I get when I searched Black Hips and Black Legs. One item and it
has blue hips.

The old goatleg was soooooo much better!!!! I don't know what happened with
the integration with BL, but it is not the same. It was originally made by 62bircks.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Because there are a TON of legs Black/Black.

I blame BL. To 62bricks, I thank you for helping me with your program. I really
loved the way it worked when it was stand alone.

Donna

Got it - The results are not actually wrong, it's just a matter of how the
parts are named. The search looks for the hips by color code, and looks for the
legs by the title. So the search is only going to bring up leg assemblies that
have hips in black and that contain "black legs" in the item name.

As it happens, this is the only assembly in the catalog that meets both those
terms. If you look at the result, that assembly does indeed come with black hips
(as well as blue ones, which is the version in the main photo).

I'll look into adding a keyword search back into the leg assembly search,
but in this case it would not have changed the result.

Thank you. I really appreciate your help with this. I'm also glad to hear
that it's not tied to BL.

Hi - Goatleg is not attached or affiliated with BL at all.

I'm not sure why the results for this are not right. But I'll look into
it!

Set: 10188-1 Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series from 2008 year

Set: 10236-1 Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series from 2013 year

It will be nice to see all of the Star Wars USC sets.

Kind regards,

They do not belong to UCS series as they are not marked as such on the boxes.
btw here you have message from LEGO which this person recived when asked about
it.

Both sets are cosider playsets.

The same situation is with 75222-1

That's a strange response from Lego, especially as the 75159 Deathstar IS
a UCS set, despite being nigh-on identical to 10188. 75159 is UCS even without
the plaque...

Damned Lego inconsistencies!!!

https://brickset.com/article/38044/what-is-the-master-builder-series
Even better they created "Master Builder Series" specially fo sets like 75222.
Didn't heard about any more sets in this series anymore

Sentence from linked article
"In fact, browsing through the Ultimate Collector Series in the Brickset database
reveals that LEGO has been somewhat careless with the UCS branding throughout
its history. "

expert on Lego stickers. He long ago started specializing at it (don't know
if you still do, Bret) But I couldn't find this item either and thought about
asking you. Glad you showed-up here to answer both the OP's my curiosities.

-Thanks

  Hi,

I found an item that is missing from the catalog. I attached the image of it.
It is a dark blue 47753 with a sticker on it. The sticker is from the set: 70730

I checked the instructions for the part and the sticker is applied as needed.

I have a few questions:
- What is the best name to give to the part?
- How to find what is the part number to use? 47753pb???

Thanks,

The LEGO wheels are most likely made from styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). To
process SBR, plasticizers are usually added to it to help with the flow of the
material into the molds (they literally make the SBR more plastic). These plasticizers
usually include some type of mineral oil derived from petroleum and some type
of ester (a type of chemical compound). Over time, these plasticizers can leach
out of the SBR under certain storage conditions. You are most likely seeing and
feeling mostly the mineral oil, but I would absolutely think that the ester is
also leaching out with the mineral oil. Why? Because esters can dissolve ABS.

Cheers,
Randy

Great to know, thank you Randy

Visually, they absolutely look like they are covered in mineral oil. These were
not commingled (they were in a set box/clean) so they are not covered in dirt,
the others I encounter were covered in *stuff*

I've run into various amounts of the tacky feel, so I would imagine that
is the second compound coming out in various amounts.

I'm guessing heat? I've run into this 3 times now one the lots also had
heat warped baseplates. I've never seen it on my own/original lego which
has never experienced a hot garage.

Are they trash? Can I clean them?

I just got some

Part No: 2346 Name: Tire 30 x 10.5 Offset Tread
*
2346 Tire 30 x 10.5 Offset Tread
Parts: Wheel, Tire & Tread
in light grey and was pretty stoked (only came in 3
sets) and they are awful gooey messes, I have more on the way and I don't
want it to be a total loss. The weird color on a common part is so neat in person.

Thanks everyone

Crystal

I often find it in old, old sealed sets. Sometimes the tire is ruined and sometimes
I don't think so. I think it can be fixed with armor-all, but I just sell
them as-is with a comment.

Weird! I've encountered oily tires before, but just assumed it was a coating
to help them pop out of the mold at the factory or a light coating to help guard
against dry rot.

I've seen the leaching before in my fishing tackle box when old plastic "twister
tails" would start to leach through the plastic baggies and even start to melt
the plastic in the utility box they were inside.

I didn't know this could happen to lego tires too!? Makes me nervous about
my stored childhood sets.

So too much air, and they dry out and get dry-rot, not enough, and they melt.

Nice....

I'll note that the tackle box spent many a thermal cycle in a garage, whereas
the lego temps have always been more stable.

Don't stress too much, I have TONS of old tires and I've only found this
buying lego from people who were obviously not collectors. I strongly suspect
some sort of really bad storage (decades in a hot cold hot cold garage or storage
unit (which are live ovens)

I think I'm going to toss these.

If they're SBS and the plasticizer is leaching from them, you probably ought
to handle them with nitrile gloves, double-plastic-bag them, and take them to
hazardous waste.

Honestly, I'm inclined to go this route, as I said in the OP, I've seen
whatever is "on" these tires MELT the neighboring bricks. My gut tells
me whatever is going on here is bad JuJu.

I don't think tackle box trouble has much to do with hot and cold temperature.
All of your soft plastic lures and worms seem to be a vinyl plastic that will
react strongly with styrene plastic. Fishing boxes of that material work well
for weights and hooks, and usually don't interact with the paint on your
jigs, bu they are trouble if they come into contact with . Good quality tackle
storage should not be that shiny clear styrene plastic.

Hello everyone,

Part No: 772 Name: Brick 1 x 2 x 2 without Inside Axle Holder or Stud Holder
*
772 Brick 1 x 2 x 2 without Inside Axle Holder or Stud Holder
Parts: Brick
Marked for Deletion

I came across this brick while checking the inventory of 7623
and I am wondering, does this part variant actually exist? I do not have it in
my collection and I also haven't found a photo showing the bottom (BL doesn't
have one too). Moreover, the quantities for sale are very low. I have asked four
sellers to check this variant. Two of them replied instantly and said their parts
are 3245b/c. One seller didn't answer but moved his parts to 3245b/c and
one seller didn't react at all. Based on that it is very likely that the
other parts for sale are also sorted incorrectly. But I don't know how to
go on with this thing now. How can one be sure that this variant actually does
not exist?

(Yes, there is a printed brick

*
772p01 Brick 1 x 2 x 2 without Bottom Tube with Window Pattern

but I am talking about the plain variant.)

I believe Lego uses Styrene-Butadiene Styrene (SBS rubber) for their tires. Pretty
much the same material used on your sneakers like vans or converse. The edging
around the bottom of the shoe, if you’ve ever had to clean them. Also used on
many of today’s automotive parts such as rubber molding, trim, etc.

Knowing this, you should be able to determine what products you could use to
clean and/or treat the tires, to stay stoked

Remembering the proclamations you made of placing me on your ignore list, if
you've actually done so, I guess this advise is for naught and I'm spinning
my wheels here

Maybe another can pass it on.

Yes, that is correct. Good thing we didn't change them before when we added

What does the BA here mean? Is it "brick assembly" or something similar?

Yes, "Brick Assembly"

  Ok I found the "sticker over assembly" group but my question is what is the process
to submit it, when I go to add or change then it asks for the part number and
it doesn't have one because its two parts together with a sticker so how
do I submit it for an add to the set?

This is how I added a stickered assembly a few weeks ago:

First check if there already is an assembly like yours in the catalog by searching
for "assembly slopes".

Results: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?q=assembly%20slopes

As you can see, there is no assembly consisting of two curved slopes 4x1. So
your assembly is a new one. Now check the first free number for assembled parts
with stickers. Open the "Sticker Over Assembly" category and sort by item number:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?pg=1&catString=582&itemBrand=1000&catType=P&v=1

The highest number is BA91pb01, so your part number would be BA92pb01.

To be sure this number is not used for a recent entry, check items pending approval:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?itemPend=Y

No results for "BA92pb01", so you can use this number.

Most of the time that will work, but the foolproof way to search is to check
for "BA92*".

This will save you from "running over" a Left / Right pair, e.g.

[p=BA84pb01L]
[p=BA84pb01R]

the photo today.

I see you resubmitted the part with the correct number and name today.

[p=BA93pb01]

Now just submit your photo to that entry and it will be approved.

And you can delete your previous submission "61678-black" and your photo submitted

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?itemPend=Y

No results for "BA92pb01", so you can use this number.

For part name, I would suggest "Stickered Assembly 2 x 4 x 1 with Circled Number
9 Pattern (Sticker) - Set 8159 - 2 Slopes Curved 4 x 1 No Studs"
(I have used the name of similar part BA43pb02 as a template).

If exactly the same assembly (two curved slopes 4x1 in our example) is added
with another sticker later, that assembly will get number BA92pb02 etc. That
means "BAxx" stands for the speficic assembly and "pbxx" stands (as always) for
the sticker or imprint.

By the way, the stickered assemblies have to be renumbered in the near future
to get an extra 0.

Regards,
Jonas

Wow just saw this, thanks for the info I would have never gotten all that on
my own. I assumed that admin would have to give it its own part number I didn't
realize I could do that for them. Maybe I should re submit it? I just submitted
the photo today.

It doesn't appear to be added to the catalog yet. You can do this yourself
- just use this form:

https://www.bricklink.com/wantedCatalog.asp?catType=S

and model the new entry off of this one:

These warped 2x4 plates have been showing up in some lots I've bought (I've
thrown out about 25 of these during the last couple of months).

They only ever warp in the pip end, and I've seen it only for black, and
never for any other types of plates.

Does anyone know of an explanation?

/Jan

I found that 2 of the 6 I have do not shown the markings on the front although
they both have them on the back.
They are not clones as they have lego stamps and I parted them out new from sets
myself. I parted them from two different sets. The battlepack and the speeder
so unsure which one they came from.

Would your software still work if there were one entry with 5 alternate part
numbers?

I prefer it this way. It's a rare occurrence and changing it would save only

I see how it can be a problem when you're looking to buy one, but I wonder
how often this really happens?

So are you saying it is preferable for the database but not for buying and selling.
This seems like the better solution?

Would you have 6 entries on your own webshop?

Well, buyers seem OK with puzzling around with minifigs buying them either whole
or in parts. That's also a situation where people are searching for two things
in parallel that come down to the same thing and it's much more common.
It would mess up my syncing software, for one thing. And I think generally item
names being adaptable depending on what is released next is not a good situation.
So yeah, if I can choose, I'd have multiple entries, but that's just
my opinion.

Jonas

1) For parts, the color of the image may now be specified by adding a comma and
the BrickLink part number after the Item Number:

Part No: 4085d Name: Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)

4085d Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)

*
4085d Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)

2) For sets, instructions and original boxes, the suffix is only needed when
it is not "-1":

Set No: 493 Name: Space Command Center (Flatplate version)
*
493-1 (Inv) Space Command Center (Flatplate version)

We have tweaked the Forum / Message macro tags in the following ways:

1) For parts, the color of the image may now be specified by adding a comma and
the BrickLink part number after the Item Number:

Part No: 4085d Name: Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)
*
4085d Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)
Parts: Plate, Modified {Blue}

Part No: 4085d Name: Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)
*
4085d Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)
Parts: Plate, Modified {Medium Blue}

Part No: 4085d Name: Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)
*
4085d Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)
Parts: Plate, Modified {Dark Bluish Gray}

Part No: 4085d Name: Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)
*
4085d Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)
Parts: Plate, Modified {Light Bluish Gray}

2) For sets, instructions and original boxes, the suffix is only needed when
it is not "-1":

Set No: 493 Name: Space Command Center (Flatplate version)
*
493-1 (Inv) Space Command Center (Flatplate version)
161 Parts, 4 Minifigures, 1979
Sets: Space: Classic Space

Set No: 493 Name: Space Command Center (Craterplate version)
*
493-3 (Inv) Space Command Center (Craterplate version)
145 Parts, 4 Minifigures, 1979
Sets: Space: Classic Space

Ok I found the "sticker over assembly" group but my question is what is the process
to submit it, when I go to add or change then it asks for the part number and
it doesn't have one because its two parts together with a sticker so how
do I submit it for an add to the set?

First hear
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogListOld.asp?pg=1&q=stickered+over+assembly&catLike=W&sortBy=D&sortAsc=D&itemBrand=1000&v=1

It was a problem only when parts assembly was hold only by sticker, then they
weren't accepted now they are.

I thought that this door

Part No: 64390 Name: Door 1 x 4 x 6 Round Top with Window and Keyhole, Reinforced Edge
*
64390 Door 1 x 4 x 6 Round Top with Window and Keyhole, Reinforced Edge
Parts: Door
fit onto this modified brick

Part No: 60583b  Name: Brick, Modified 1 x 1 x 3 with 2 Clips (Vertical Grip) - Hollow Stud
*
60583b Brick, Modified 1 x 1 x 3 with 2 Clips (Vertical Grip) - Hollow Stud
Parts: Brick, Modified
(either version of the 1X1X3 brick.)

The catalog pages for both the brick and the door list other parts that they
are compatible with. I thought that these 2 parts worked together, but from
what I see here, they do not. Perhaps the relationship just hasn't been
added yet? Can anyone tell me for sure if that door will fit into the clips
of that brick?

Thanks,
David

I have this in a set and I want to determine it, but I'm a little lost.
It has the 4 slots, but I can't tell from the limited pics the long and short
socket. Can someone help?

The four I have are the same length but as one has two slots and the others 4,
I guess they are all “long.”
The length is a bit more than a stud: you can’t put a brick in front of the socket
and aligned on studs. (You can put a plate because the slots are high enough
for the tiny “bit more.”)

Oh, if you have

those are shorter, by around 1mm.

Sorry for the late response, Mark.

I do truly enjoy your comic creations, they're superb satire. You sir, have
a gift, no doubt!

For the life of me, though, I don't understand this comic strip?

I see clearly Russell with his hair-on-fire, but don't get the storyline
or understand whom the others are? To be completely honest, I feel kinda stupid,
if it's a given for others!

We actually have that in our organization method. All the technic bricks that

sense to break into a new category on BL.

This actually makes a bit more sense, since Part (45411)'s original

Parts (45411) and (45410) could also be reclassified as Cylinders, though. 😐

Ok, yes, I can see why those should stick together.

Random idea: Changing Vehicle Base into Vehicle Base & Roof. Move all these parts
there, together with those car roofs that are currently in wedge but aren't
really that wedgy

Yes, North American pins.

Should I just list it as 9833 or would the Catalog be improved by adding it as
a different item. I don't have the packaging, just the plug.

In Catalog, BricksThatStick writes:
  In Catalog, TorontoLego writes:
  Which category? Any other specifics for a listing like this?

Anyone know what set it comes from?

I don't know specifically about these but it looks the same as the attached
pic from set 9833

The US/Canada listing on BL shows a different design (although it is the same
spec)

Set No: 9833 Name: AC Adapter, 120V - 10V Transformer
*
9833-2 (Inv) AC Adapter, 120V - 10V Transformer
1 Part, 2000
Sets: MINDSTORMS: NXT

But yours does look like the UK version of 9833 but I assume yours has the US/Canada
pins

Set No: 9833 Name: AC Adapter, 230V - 10V Transformer Type G Plug (British)
*
9833-3 (Inv) AC Adapter, 230V - 10V Transformer Type G Plug (British)
1 Part, 2006
Sets: MINDSTORMS: NXT

Could just be an updated design?

Part No: 49949  Name: Cylinder 6 x 10 x 4 1/3 with Open Sides and Pin Holes
*
49949 Cylinder 6 x 10 x 4 1/3 with Open Sides and Pin Holes
Parts: Cylinder

When its own counterpart that fits into it is a Slope:

Part No: 45411  Name: Slope, Curved 6 x 8 x 2 Double
*
45411 Slope, Curved 6 x 8 x 2 Double
Parts: Slope, Curved

This actually makes a bit more sense, since Part (45411)'s original
counterpart is Part (45410), which is also classified as a Curved Slope. Both
Parts (45411) and (45410) could also be reclassified as Cylinders, though. 😐

Part No: 45411  Name: Slope, Curved 6 x 8 x 2 Double
*
45411 Slope, Curved 6 x 8 x 2 Double
Parts: Slope, Curved

Part No: 45410  Name: Slope, Curved 6 x 8 x 2 Inverted Double
*
45410 Slope, Curved 6 x 8 x 2 Inverted Double
Parts: Slope, Curved
