I think there is a very big market for monochrome minifigures. So far, these
are considered custom items.
I would like to suggest establishing a separate category for monochrome minifigures
in the "standard version" of all colors.

For example "Minifigure Monochrome - white".

I look forward to your estimation and feedback

My vote is a no.

Me too. There is already a place to sell these since they ARE custom items.

This exists because it was sold this way. Same for the others that are mentioned
below that have appeared in sets as figs built that way. I get the idea of having
all different monochrome color figs available, but then where do you limit the
creation of them. Does it mean, you could only have figs if all the parts are
available to create it. If someone "cleans" a part to remove the print and create
a new monochrome, they technically have the part, but it's not original by
any means. The current catalog doesn't limit anyone from buying or creating
them, but I could see the gap if someone is looking to purchase one. It's
a balance that I'm glad I don't have to manage.

They can also "clean" a part and list it as the plain torso, that is nothing
new. I'd hope anyone doing that would list them as used or at least indicate
the parts had been wiped.

They can also create a monochrome torso assembly by pulling off (yellow) hands
from another one such as this

Part No: 973c07 Name: Torso Plain / Blue Arms / Yellow Hands
*
973c07 (Inv) Torso Plain / Blue Arms / Yellow Hands
Parts: Minifigure, Torso Assembly

and adding the correct colour hands. So the torso assembly might not be original
but still exists if created. More of a worry are monochrome legs/hips, as people
can pull off the legs and damage the pins, but again that is not a new problem.

As long as they are sold as used it doesn't matter. And if after wipe it's
100% indistinguishable from a non-wiped used torso... well... it really doesn't
matter.

Not really, you can often see a different surface when it is wiped, so not 100%
and it does matter.

Disagree - the main objective of the catalog is to facilitate selling and buying
LEGO in this marketplace. If there is significant demand it should be added to
the catalog to make it easier to buy and sell (and to track the price history).
I trust the catalog admins to make a judgement call whether something is worthy
or not, but can understand that they wouldn't want that responsibility and
the flood of requests/complaints.

I agree. This should be done with certain types of parts after proper discernment.

There are other monochrome figures too, just with accessories/headgear

Minifig No: hp204 Name: Statue - Hogwarts Architect (Monochrome)
*
hp204 (Inv) Statue - Hogwarts Architect (Monochrome)
Minifigures: Harry Potter

Minifig No: sh352 Name: Statue - Arkham Asylum (Monochrome)

Minifigures: Super Heroes: The LEGO Batman Movie

Minifig No: old045 Name: Statue - Legoland with Top Hat
*
old045 (Inv) Statue - Legoland with Top Hat
Minifigures: LEGOLAND

As "standard" monochromes are not official, it is right that they are not in
the catalogue. Otherwise, fans could invent other similar things and expect them
to be included in the catalogue.

I also don't think there is the need. Monochrome has entered as a search
term for genuinely produced legs/hips and torso assemblies:

Part No: 970c00 Name: Hips and Legs Plain
*
970c00 (Inv) Hips and Legs Plain
Parts: Minifigure, Legs

Part No: 973c00 Name: Torso Plain / (Same Color) Arms / (Same Color) Hands
*
973c00 (Inv) Torso Plain / (Same Color) Arms / (Same Color) Hands
Parts: Minifigure, Torso Assembly

so they are easy to find.

Why not attach monochrome’s to this listing, saves a lot of work....

  Hi
I don't know if this had been on this forum before, but I really get irritated
by the fact that there is a default shipping (and payment) method preset.

Over and over buyers select the wrong shipping method because this is the default
option. So order a small object for 12 euro and choose parcel track&trace @ 32,50
for shipping. This means I first have to ask them if this is really the option
they want, wait for their answer, correct shipping method etc.

Or in a less extreme example send out the invoice and get buyers who are upset
about the high shipping costs.

Today at least 5 out of ten orders have what looks a not quite logical shipping
method chosen by the buyer. If I make another method default it won't change
this, buyers will select letter untracked for a 2 kg worth 200 euro shipping.

Maybe I do something wrong, so first let me ask if there is a method to let buyers
FORCE to make a choice about shipping (and payment!!) and if this is not possible
PLEASE make it possible to sellers NOT to have the default shipping and payment
method pre-selected in their shop.

As a buyer I also sometimes make the mistake to click to fast and bypass the
option to change the shipping and payment methods. So I understand this happens
and I don't blame my buyers. (but the system...)

So it will be much less frustration for both buyer and seller.

Sorry if this is a silly question for which there is a simple solution, and so
there will be one thanks for telling me how I should change the setting.

Did you group the shipping methods?

No I didn't but the 'goup' field before the shipping method is gray/de-activated
and cant be changed.'Maybe I need to activate it somehow, I will try to find
it out but in fact it isn;t a solution.

Moreover this is a more general problem and I don't understand why only one
seller/buyer is reacting. In my opinion it would be much better if buyers have
to act to choose the right shipping method. Putting ther cheapest method default
wouldn't help because manu buyers now just click through and when the cheapest
option is default choose 'letter no insurance' for a bulky 500 euro order.

I know this problem both as a seller and a frequent buyer. '

So again the question: Why is the shipping and payment method pre-set with the
result that often the wrong methods are chosen? Isn't it better that buyer
is forced to make a choice? Every seller will have the experience that often
a wrong method is chosen and every buyer knows how easy it is to click through
and afterwards sees he choosed the wrong method.

Corrections on shipping methods will allways be neccecary, but now I have to
correct a large proportion of all orders, with all correspondence. (You choosed
a rather expenmsive shiping methid for this orderr, do you reallyv want this-
or: Sorry, 20 BURPS realy do not fit in a letter so I have to change this to
parcel shipping)

I have several wanted lists with separated between a few different purposes and
I would like to be able to search in a subset of them, the same way it's
possible to select all or only some wanted lists in the Buy page.

Are you using the new wanted list or the old one?

It's in the "New" category, the "Classic" is a little rough for me.

Thank you for your consideration!

I could save a lot of clicking and time by knowing which stores are not worth
clicking on. Sorting by price should come with this. Thanks!

The "Auto-select" feature takes care of this pretty well. It's not perfect
though, you still have to go through every single suggested cart to make sure
that you aren't overpaying for a specific part, but otherwise I've been
pretty happy with it.

a checkbox or something inside a wishlist to mark a whole list or individual
parts as "ordered". They wouldn't appear in your wanted part listing, so
you'd see what parts you're actually still missing.

The Apply Order function, kind of, already does that.
It changes the Have quantities in the Wantlist(s).

The keyword is "kind of". The only moment it makes sense to use this feature
is when you receive an order and confirmed it is complete. However between the
ordering and its completion, there can be several weeks during which the wanted
list is still missing parts that have been ordered but are in transit.

And if an order isn't complete for whatever reason, this feature becomes
useless.

In the wanted list search filters "More Options", you can check the box "Hide

missing.

If you have a list of brick codes, it would be very helpful to find the store
that owns the entire list or has the largest number of them.

You are looking for a Wanted List. It's already here on BrickLink. Start
with the little heart 'Want' on the top menu. Or, type in your code in
the search, navigate to the catalog item page and click 'Add to My Wanted
List'

Jen

BTW, I wish we had a different icon and indicator for this on the top menu. I
just don't see how a heart and the word Want conveys to new users that necessary
shopping methods are hidden there. Does anyone have a better idea?

Had a thought about the previous discussion where it is quite confusing currently
for processing refunds for US states that have collected sales tax. As it stands,
the refund box has us enter an amount, and then below it calculates the amount
that will come from the seller/PayPal, and the amount from the taxes BrickLink
collected, so a seller has to know the rate of tax for the state of the buyer
and also include it in the total.

Which is different from the exemption issue. The real important question about
this is, who determines that a buyer is exempt, the seller or BL. From my perspective
it would be BL that processes the buyer's exemption certificate (as it would
cover all sellers shipping to that buyer).

  Suggestion:
-Beside the box where you enter the refund amount, include a "tax inclusive"
and "tax exclusive" radio button where the seller can select it.

This would allow sellers to not have to know the rate of state for the state
and manually calculate it by selecting "tax exclusive", meaning the calculation
below will take that amount, and ADD tax to the total (not as a % of the total
the seller put in).

Seller's will not know, particularly when the tax rate varies by jurisdiction
within a state. Florida has a statewide base rate of 6%, but a county optional
add-on of 0%-1.5%. So the rate may vary depending on the specific address within
the state. The rate can more likely be retrieved by the service that BL is using
to pull up this information.

But this also allows what Niek (qwertyboy) had suggested where if you want to
give a higher total amount, you can check tax inclusive so it'll act the
way that it's currently programmed.

Nita Rae

By tax exclusive, I wasn't referring to any kind of tax exemption. Tax exclusive
when referring to calculators like this means that the total you have entered
does not include the sales tax. This is how sellers want it to operate (based
on discussions), where the amount we enter is tax exclusive, so the calculation
below it will add the tax automatically without the seller having to calculate
it (since we can't easily know what the rates are).

Tax inclusive is for when a seller is doing an amount (usually) above and beyond
just a direct refund of a part. To clarify, how it works right now by default
is this method - tax inclusive. When you enter an amount, the calculator believes
that you already included the sales tax, and it's doing the breakdown of
which part of that refund is sales tax, and what is the amount for the item(s)
itself.

... and to make things even more complex - I believe some states have taxes on
shipping as well, and others don't. What if you agree to refund an item from
the order plus the order's shipping cost? BL can't know what part of
the agreed-upon refund amount is for shipping. It will likely refund too much
of its tax collection and not enough from the seller's pocket.

(This is not a hypothetical situation - if we can't fulfill something from
an order and it is the most important or most valuable part, we could agree to
refund part+shipping.)

Niek.

In other online marketplace the refund form lets you refund pieces, shipping
or credit...

in my IO file blocks the upload to my wanted list because they are not genuine
parts available through BL.

I'd like to see those parts ignored... or at least an option to do so.

I know there's the workaround of going through the IO file and deleting them
to upload. But my file has over 46000 parts, these custom parts are embedded
several layers deep in multiple sub-sub-sub-models... which means they're
difficult to find because stud.io doesn't have a fully function find-replace
mechanism (I and plenty of others have requested it, and requested that it work
with sub-models as well as main model).

This is still a work in progress, so I'm not really wanting to delete them
because re-instating them is going to be a pain. Plus with the size of the model
stud.io doesn't behave quite as it should anyway because of all the memory
leaks in it (which is going to affect any attempt to copy-paste the file then
delete the custom parts in the copy)...

PS. I'm sure I've requested this before, but for the life of me cannot
find it. stud.io isn't the only thing with memory leaks

For the record, I've found a way around this... but it feels a little clunky.

1. Export from stud.io in Wanted List XML format. This exports only standard
Lego parts.

2. Open the exported XML in a text editor. Select all and copy to the clipboard
or equivalent.

3. In BL, go to "Upload" in the "Want" menu, and select the wanted list from
the drop down.

4. Paste the XML text into the appropriate window and click the button to verify.

5. Proceed through verification as normal.

There can be only one party responsible for tax/vat and that is the seller. So..
if BrickLink is taking on the burden of tax/vat and be liable for it, there can
only be one conclusion: BrickLink is the seller. Hence, BrickLink does the sale,
the invoicing, the tax/vat, the refund, etc. (And takes care of the not hypothetical
situation described above.)

Niek.

Maybe I'm not understand what you are suggesting, but spell check is a function
of the browser, not the Bricklink.

You can turn it off for form fields (as well as for forms in general) by using
the attribute 'spellcheck="false"'. Whether the browser obeys is another
question, but I think most of them do.

This will solve a huge problem Bricklink XP has, there you can only buy parts
in known colors.

You can find this item page:

https://www.bricklink.com/r3/catalog/parts/Minifig_Accessories/Minifig_Utensil/product.page?P=62713

But it only lets you buy items in that known color. If you want to trick the
URL to show parts in Dark Bluish Gray that do exists you can:

https://www.bricklink.com/r3/catalog/parts/Minifig_Accessories/Minifig_Utensil/product.page?P=62713&idColor=85

But there is no official way to access that page as a user...

You are literally screwing up my access to rare parts that are only available
on this site. You are hurting part of this hobby for me. STOP IT! I am only
a buyer and not a seller. I understand you must be going through some growing
pains trying to get all the sellers to pay taxes, but don't take it out on
the buyers. Seriously stop blocking my access to the parts I need. Not allowing
me to ship items to my home from sellers who are willing to ship them to me is
a legitimate reason for me to be pissed. You are forcing me to go buy clone
parts off site when I don't really want to as an immediate direct result
of this action.

If you don't want to pay your sales taxes to the great state of Massachusetts
then I suggest you use your democratic rights to elect legislators who will change
the law.
Or, you could move to a different jurisdiction that doesn't charge sales
tax.

I WANT to pay my taxes. I have no problem with paying my taxes.

The problem is that we (BrickLink) cannot pay those taxes unless the seller chooses
to use an onsite payment method. We cannot force sellers to make this choice,
so it is up to these sellers to open themselves up to the larger market.

This is why some other members in this thread are advising you to contact sellers
you wish to buy from and kindly ask if they would adopt an onsite method. It
is not a lengthy process - it takes just a few minutes for those who already
have an account.

Would be nice if Excluding "Stores that do not ship to me" would block them from
showing up in searches.

Just food for thought (although not even sure I like this solution, haven't
read into it much), but in Canada the primary "debit" method that folks use is
Interac E-transfer. There are some solutions like PremierPay (with a transaction
fee of course), and can be setup with API etc. I'm assuming IBAN likely has
some other paid solutions that assist in facilitating the transaction, but again,
probably less popular due to the fees associated (even if less than PayPal).
From a buyer's perspective, it's potentially a bit easier though. And
it could probably allow BrickLink to facilitate tax collection as well.

First, “IBAN” is a misnomer, it’s just bank transfers, to be precise, an International
(not only EU) standard for Bank Account Numbers (i…b…a…n…!).  It’s very unfortunate
that BL named this method this way, or, rather, it’s unfortunate it’s the name
under which it was publicized or at least collaquially adopted in some countries
(NL).
Even more unfortunate, this method actually covers many situations of bank transfers
but not all bank transfers: different currencies not only EUR, national or international
transfers but not “only EU” (or even “only Europpe”), and with or without fees
but with no way to know beforehand (depends on both seller’s and buyer’s banks).
I strongly believe BL should not have added this method, “bank transfers” was
sufficient, or should have given it a narrower meaning… and then, maybe, should
have created more than one.

From what I understand, several countries have their own preferred interfaces
for IBAN transactions. Outside Bricklink my Dutch customers pay by iDEAL and
my Belgian customers sometimes by Bancontact. As far as I know they're similar.
The cool thing about Stripe is that you can just accept these payments without
even knowing what they are, so adding these methods would be great for most on
Bricklink worldwide - the only exception being sellers outside the EU who only
sell domestically. (and of course it's great for the buyers in the countries
where these payment solutions are used)

The Dutch one is very popular here in spite of the fee. The fee is only €0.29
regardless of the amount, and even if a store/organisation/restaurant/etc would
offer both options, I'm assuming people just go for the onsite solution,
even if the seller passes on the fees to the buyer. That's what I do anyway.

It seems to me that offsite bank transfers are becoming less usual in daily life
here, with the main second hand trading site now also offering onsite payment.
It's going to be a matter of time before Bricklink (and Lego.com!) are going
to have to follow along.

In France, it’s mostly cards (with the possibility of chargeback, contrarily
to bank transfers) and I expect it will stay that way.  Though, with the new
SEPA instant payment rules now in place and implemented, maybe the banks will
do something.

What Bricklink could do is inform all sellers that since mid last year they need
an onsite payment option to sell to (almost all) US buyers.
And inform them that in case of an error when trying to send an invoice they
have to check there template.
The Brexit mail was good although nothing was really said in it, but for the
US tax changes nothing has been communicated, while given all kinds of forum
posts a lot of sellers don't know about it.

Yes, I think there is overwhelming evidence that many sellers did not receive
the message from BrickLink regarding how the sales tax deployment directly affected
their stores. Despite all the problems and like 900 Forum posts about it, BrickLink
prefers to do nothing to solve this problem. The broken template thing was also
a bug they never addressed. Typical.

Difficult and potentially unstable? How so? BrickOwl doesn't seem to have
that problem, and neither do I in my own website. It works perfectly, just use
Stripe. I managed to get it to work in my webshop in no time at all.

Same here, I haven't had problems on BrickOwl with any of the Stripe integrations
for local or regional instant bank payments.

Oh right, Stripe does do debit/bank as well. Works fantastic on BrickOwl for
myself as well. I still get folks that like to do the Interac E-transfer method
(for Canada), so I'm not sure if they specifically support *all* debit features
natively but most.

Just in case it wasn't clear-I have no problem with the taxes. I have a
problem that Bricklink won't allow me to complete a transaction with many
stores at the moment. I do a fair amount of bricklink buying to put it mildly.

It is not Bricklink it is the SELLERS you are choosing. Bricklink is following
the law.

It is possible in theory to incorporate IBAN into an onsite solution, but apparently
it is very difficult and potentially unstable. So we consider IBAN to be offsite
only.

IBAN is offsite but it can be used with instant checkout. For offsite payment
methods, instant checkout is just an automatic invoice.

So you want them to break the law just for you? It is required for Bricklink
to collect sales tax. The sellers are the ones who haven't updated their
policies not Bricklink. Why don't you message the sellers telling them what
they need to do. Be part of the solution not part of the problem.

The whole purpose of me bothering to write this in the suggestion forum is exactly
to find a solution to this problem. I am trying to do so.

Sellers (those who have enabled onsite payments) are not paying your taxes at
all, they are simply enabling BrickLink to collect and remit those taxes on their
behalf as required by law for sales in many states.

I heard the Bahamas are pleasant this time of year.

Sand + LEGO equals scratches.

I can't argue with that logic, ha ha.

It is possible in theory to incorporate IBAN into an onsite solution, but apparently
it is very difficult and potentially unstable. So we consider IBAN to be offsite

Actually, I think that browsing is much more efficient with the small thumbnails
as long as the images are good enough. Larger images would only mean a lot more
scrolling. Different users have different needs! I hope any updates or changes

That's correct - I think 2017 was the cutoff from what I've read here
in the forums.

I switched to a seller account just last year and never had a choice off onsite
vs. offsite - just PayPal, Stripe, or both.

I agree, it's a pain. And the bandwidth is not that much, just move the images
to a static-serving webserver.

Well, you will be fine as long as you offer an onsite payment method. Paypal

If you search 'sales tax' here in the Forum, you'll get more info
than you would ever want.

You are blaming the wrong people for the wrong things. Blame BrickLink for not
doing more to educate their sellers about the recent changes to the site that
directly affected their stores. Sellers received only one communication about
the tax update, and the relevant information was buried in it.

All you need to do is contact any sellers from whom you can't order, inform
them that they need to enable an onsite payment method, and direct them to the
Forum if they have any questions. You will be doing them, yourself, and lots
of fellow BrickLinkers a great service.

Also, many sellers have conflated onsite payments with Instant Checkout and have
resisted changing their stores for this reason. Instant Checkout is confusing
to implement and imperfect, so try to be understanding. Here is a handy chart
you can use if anyone needs convincing.

Good luck,
Jen

Good luck,
Jen

Really? Buyers instructing Sellers how to do their job??? The world upside down.

If you don't want to pay your sales taxes to the great state of Massachusetts
then I suggest you use your democratic rights to elect legislators who will change
the law.
Or, you could move to a different jurisdiction that doesn't charge sales
tax.

I heard the Bahamas are pleasant this time of year.

So you want them to break the law just for you? It is required for Bricklink
to collect sales tax. The sellers are the ones who haven't updated their
policies not Bricklink. Why don't you message the sellers telling them what
they need to do. Be part of the solution not part of the problem.

Well... we do force buyers to give personal information, don’t we?

Let’s see...
Name
Address
email

I agree with the OP, a phone number should be required. Most shippers are starting
to require it, so why not remove some of the hassle in a smooth BL transaction
by requiring a phone number of all buyers?

Oh, I know why this will never happen... taxes...

Yeah... On every website you buy online now you put your whole address, email
and phone number. Half of the packets shipped to mine I get a SMS or a call from
the delivery man/woman.

The thing is most BL users that are here more than a few years were not required
to put it on registration, but new ones have it there (optional).

Another problem is you can't add it in your profile: https://www.bricklink.com/pref_address.asp

I found that in XP you have the field available and it saves good to show in
orders: https://www.bricklink.com/r3/user/addressbook.page

I think that what you are looking for is already there, but somewhat hidden.
After selecting the list open the 'All Filters', the last option in there
is "Hide Items if Have Qty is ≥ Want Qty"

I'd like to see some small improvements to the way that help-desk tickets are
handled.

First, an auto-reply of receipt, with a ticket number, would be great.

I'm not sure what the help desk process looks like on Admin's end, but I would
expect that tickets can be (at the very least), marked with status updates, and
merged (for duplicates). If so, having an autoresponder could also take advantage
of this structure -- when a ticket is closed, the autoresponder could send the
ticket status update to the person who opened the ticket (any anyone else whose
tickets were merged).

Think about the timeout issues we've been seeing lately. It's fantastic that
Admin has come on to the forum to give us some updates on the status. But only
about ... what ... 1/20 BrickLink users reads the forum? Less than that do it
regularly, and we know how fast posts scroll off the first page.

If status updates could be sent at least to the people who mailed the help-desk,
I think that would go a long way toward keeping those frustrated users "in-the-loop",
in case a significant portion of them are not forum readers.

Marc.

Bump, because the request for better trouble ticket support has been open for
more than ten years with no response from BrickLink.

We asked for this over ten years ago, a fact that The LEGO Group and @CE_Tanja
may not be aware of.

Hello,

I came accross some old images of how a message alert looks like on https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=125.
But since BrickLink doesn't look like that anymore, my suggestion is to update
the pictures. It is (or at least sounds) very simple and turns these useless
images into helpful ones. Maybe there are other images (or even texts) that ask
for an update too, but I only came accross this one.

Regards,

Anthony.

I made the same request in July 2019, but it was declined. I still don’t understand
why. It makes no sense at all.

I would definitely be fine with adding this color to the catalog. It obviously
would not be linked to any inventories, but at least arms and legs from these
keychains could be listed under the proper color for commerce purposes. I see
no reason not to do this.

If your making a minifig for a MOC, Chrome Red arms might be perfect.

Exactly, the arms and legs should be made available for sale. Just because they
weren't released outside of being a keychain, doesn't mean we shouldn't
be able to sell them.

But for what reason? I cannot know the wants of every member, but I imagine
the demand for just chrome red arms and legs without the rest of the body would
be slim to none. This seems like more of a request to allow every possible part
ever made into the BL catalog for the sake of catalog "completeness" as opposed
to an effort to provide a method to sell and buy something.

I don't know what the effort involved might be, if it's minimal it might
be worth it regardless of whether they sell frequently or not.

We might have spent more effort talking about it!

Because they exist.

What is the point of the catalogue if things are left out because there is no
other reason to put them in?

Exactly, the arms and legs should be made available for sale. Just because they
weren't released outside of being a keychain, doesn't mean we shouldn't
be able to sell them.

We allow these already which never were officially released outside of a glued
keychain.

Please provide some examples of parts that need this color.

It only comes on two keychains:

And they are glued, so cant be inventoried, so no parts in chrome red?

At least the arms and legs can be taken off, so it is possible to have singe
parts which would need to be listed in chrome red if you want to sell them.

Btw. this is already mentioned here as part of project 2:
