I have a lot of older parts from sets I parted out many years ago and stored
away. I had originally intended to use them for my own creations, but am now
more inclined to sell them. They have never been played with and are in great
condition. However, some of the whites have yellowed a bit with age. I am having
a dilemma as to what to do with these white parts. Do I list them as new, since
they have never been played with? Do I sort through them and pick out the whitest
ones, and only list those as new? And if so how do I determine how white is
white enough? Do I list the yellowed ones as used and make note of the yellowing?
Do I just keep all white parts out of my inventory to avoid potential unhappy
customers? Any advice is appreciated.

We have had a bit over 12,000 orders in our store since opening and we have had
zero complaints of any color variations of any of our stock in all colors that
we have sold and more then 95% of our sales are of parts. So as long as the color
differences are not too much then I think most buyers are understanding of the
fact that there are going to be slight variations of certain colors.

As most of you are aware we keep track of the number of orders that are received
by a group of 13 UK stores. We are in our third year of monitoring this and for
the quarter June to August things are not looking very positive.

Lots of competition, lots of sets for sale on other sites and lots of Lego that
isn't needed by lots of people.

I think that you can say that the bubble has burst (or is about to).

Lego themselves found this recently based on articles about Lego as a company.

The other auction site is flooded with the same sort of sets and its a race to
the bottom.

Locally, the Aussie dollar has dropped to almost half against the US in about
6 years and about 75% to the euro making sales from those places looking less
attractive than local sellers. Couple this with huge increases in postage fees
(from US especially) to overseas destinations and you get the reduction in affordability.

My two cents (from a buyer who has long contemplated opening a store but has
never done so....hmm)

Yogi

Yes, all interesting comments. You might also want to throw in the reputation
tarnish from the AFOL program. The sets were probably very good (We didn't
investigate) but that is where the ball dropped - I think BL hasn't helped
either themselves or others. It also looked like it didn't meet its target
of more funding for development as the roadmap has virtually nothing but Xp on
it - and that has a lot of stores very concerned. Its impact is unknown as is
much about the product but it has been delayed since March for release and no
one is making any comments about it.

I wonder how Brickowl is doing ? Are they seeing the same drop (therefore meaning
it is an overall change of climate, or are they moving along ?

Lots of factors and discussion points. Shame BL don't comment and present
some data which would help to understand this.

Can anything be gleaned from the number of invoices? Does that give an indication
of anything?
John P

We do not believe so as there are plenty of stores who do not use the Bricklink
invoicing feature. I am sure Niek can show that the order numbers are in line
with where they should be. Overall store numbers are up but the change in the
order profile is very concerning to us, as well as a few others we have been
in comms with.

We believe, like others, that if BL were more communicative then things like
this would get comments and possibly even explanations, but that is asking for
a winning lottery ticket really as it isn't going to happen based on past
performance.

One thing I noticed about your store is that your prices on average are above
the 6 months sales average and in our I know in our store when we have our prices
at the 6 month sales average our sales decline dramatically and with all the
competition we now all have Most stores just can't expect increased sales
with prices at or above the 6 month sales average.

Also, one other thing I noticed about your store is that your prices on your
used verses new parts are a bit inconsistent with your used prices quite often
higher than your new prices. This inconsistency may also be hurting your sales.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Folks, if anything is going to improve in the catalog, we need to give some freedom
and grace to our admins so they can try things out. I can understand if people
get frustrated when they find something has changed and it no longer works for
them, but please understand that we have the long-term interests of the site
in mind, and also that we can adjust and/or reverse any decision that is made.

Regarding these sleeves, we have needed to add them to the catalog for quite
a while now, because of the need to search by the number printed on the sleeve.
Strictly speaking, this is not a PCC, but it's still a number people can
use for reference. Specifically, we want to give the ability to sellers to sell
the parts in the sleeves without having to open the sleeves. The only way they
can do this is to have a reference database showing the contents of every sleeve.

Because our partout system is not yet capable of handling subparts, we're
probably not going to be able to add these sleeves to the regular section of
inventories. Maybe if we change the image and description we can do it, but right
now sellers will end up listing things in their store that buyers cannot identify.

Please have patience as we make some adjustments.

+1

I think this is a long time coming and a darn good add to the catalog. I hate
having to open the cardboard packages to know what is inside them.

Thank you for adding them and the hard work you guys are doing in regards to
things like this! Whenever changes are made there will always be a good number
of people who will hate the changes which I can respect to a degree for there
has been changes that took me a while to get used to but as mentioned, we need
to give some latitude to the people in charge of making these changes to see
what works and what does not and give constructive criticism and not just criticism.

A little late but here is my dog Skragle. I wanted to give him a name that would
be based on something Lego related so I took kragle, from The Lego Movie and
just added an S and I think it fits him perfectly.

I just read your "Me" page after you commented that you are, shall we just say,
advanced in years. The very first line about being born in a cabin intrigued
me but as I was reading on I could see that your tongue was obviously stuck in
your cheek as you were writing and after about reading about 3/4 of your me page
the first line finally registered in my mind "I was born in a log cabin that
I helped my father build". I can't believe I didn't catch that one right
away - after all I might me dumb but I am not stupid. Well I might be stupid
but I am not an idiot! Well, okay I might be an idiot but I am not dumb.

We have added 10's of thousands of parts to our inventory over the past 2
weeks and have put all of our parts on sale at 18% off except for bricks, tiles,
and plates (which are at 10% off).

  In New Sets, iprice writes:
I can see a point in the near future where Lego stops producing paper instruction
manuals and goes completely digital - it has already started with the Star Wars
Droid Commander. TBF this is a set that requires an app for use, but I can see
more and more Lego sets requiring/using mobile tech to use or add play value
to the set (Hidden Side etc.)

It will also be cheaper for Lego to produce, create less paper, reduce box sizes/weights
and transportation costs. Better for profits and environment.

It's not a decision to be made lightly and here are some legitimate reasons
why it's a good idea to keep printed instructions:

1) For many families, building with Lego is meant to be unplugging from the electronic
devices that soak up lots of our youth's time.
2) Printed instructions allow one to build anywhere where there may not be access
to the internet (grandma's house, vacation, during power outage, etc)
3) Printed instructions are of higher quality than PDF files.

...I am sure there are many other ones, and on the flip side, there are very
good legitimate reason for the counter argument. I bet Lego has debated this
same argument, and came to conclusion that it's not a good business decision
at the moment. Us adults debating this has little to do with it as long as Lego
is considered primarily as a child's toy and parent's purchasing decision
is the key motivator.

Miro

I agree with all 3 points you made. I recently bought the treehouse and I would
hate to have to look at a pdf to build it and for me, unplugging, is an important
part of building.

I really appreciate your second point of going places where there may not be
an internet to build. One of my favorite things to do when going on vacations
is to bring a set along for the ride to build it and quite often there is no
internet connection and even when there is, I dont want to be trying to build
a set while looking at a phone screen.

In fact, I actually like when a large set has a big book, it feels like it is
adding value to the set. I remember when I purchased the Death Star and being
amazed at the size of the book of instructions with it's plastic binder -
the thing is huge.

That all being said, I do appreciate that not printing instructions would save
a lot of trees so I would (or will) fully support Lego not including instructions
in their sets if they choose to go that route which I imagine they will. They
will definitely need to improve the quality of the PDF versions of their instructions
or they will lose a lot of future customers.

I think I would especially appreciate not having printed instructions when breaking
down a lot of sets for adding inventory into our store. We can end up having
several pounds of booklets that we just end up putting in the recycle bin.

Putting the issue aside for a moment... The set is a BEAUTIFUL set. I went into
a Lego store the other day just as an employee was finishing building one and
I was really impressed by it. It has a lot of really nice detailing and I especially
liked the fact that Lego included fall colored leaves that you can use to change
out all the green leaves with if you wanted to give it a different feel to it.
I liked it so much I purchased one.

Going along with what Pippyblocks said, all you have to do is leave the items
at the US 6 month sales average then select all the items you are working with
and go to Edit menu and select Price, from there select Inc- or Decrease and
then put in the % you need to and walla, you have what you need.

I'll continue to pack to the high standard I've been packing for over
the last 40 years, albeit with Lego for only 17 years. I don't need or want
some eco warrior telling me how to pack to save a little plastic, maybe you should
aim a little higher and have a go at supermarkets and some countries. When Lego
leaves here, I know it's packed well and should survive the roughest of journeys,
what I don't want is customers saying their Lego turned up damaged due to
lack of packaging.

Just to make sure that I don't over pack your orders, I've stop listed
you, to prevent you getting a little extra plastic in your order.

SB

WOW, a rather arrogant reply, dont you think? Now I to will probably be stop
listed - at least I hope so.

Bricklink's last known income 2017/18 was approximately £1.3M That is based
on 4500 orders per day at £25 per order and a net 'fee charge' of 3%
of the total revenue going through the site. So in simple terms 4500 x 365 x
25 X 3% = £1.23M

I think the main reason BL has not done nearly as much with BrickLink as most
of us would like to see done is highlighted in what you have brought out here
about the total BL brought in as revenue for the years of 2017/18 which translated
in USD is about 1.5 million dollars.

1.5 mill just does not go very far especially when you consider that he had to
probably pay at least 10 mill for the site when he bought it so if he applied
just $250,000.00 per year to pay that back then that leave only 1.25 mill to
pay for all the operating expenses to run BL.

Let's take a little time to break this down a little.

So for starters, to help put this in perspective... Sense you know programming,
what does a decent programmer make a year? How many do you think are needed to
run BL?

was supposedly sent 5 weeks ago.

I sent a email on the 7th June to customersupport@bricklink.com and got a ticket

Have been forced to issue a NSS and finally got a response 2 days later which
completely ignored the original message showing the tracking confirms the parcel
never left the USA? They just said that they "suspect" it's stuck in customs?
How can it be stuck in UK custom if it never left the USA and parcelforce tracking
in the UK also says it has not left the USA.

Last message I left on the NSS was 4 days ago and still no update?

I have received two other AFOL design programme sets and was blown away by how
good they are, but this complete lack of help and support when things go wrong
has been shocking from bricklink.

Can someone from admin PLEASE look into this and either issue a refund or send
a replacement set.

Tracking information for FIMS is not complete. It only shows the last station
in which it was scanned. Your package could very well be waiting at your local
post office with a customs bill attached. We have seen this several times where
one package will get through, but charges are placed on the second.

Going along with this, I have sent packages to customers where the tracking info
does not change until the day it is delivered, meaning that they were not scanned
all along the way except by the last postman when they were out for delivery.
I would definitely check you post office (or where ever they hold customs packages
in your country).

What a strange thing to say. If we'd consider all fraudsters "fellow BL members",
the forum sure would be a cozy place but the marketplace would be pretty much
game over. Especially with the admins not stepping in.
I kind of agree shaming isn't good, but in a context of persistently nothing
being done against this kind of fraud (hidden charges = fraud), warning each
other in the forum is all we've got. Besides, it's not personal shaming
as much as warning other potential buyers for a shop - not a person - with bad
business practise.

Let me get down there where you're at, as you've conveniently left out
the portion of my post that interrupts your feeding...

Yeah, you had issues with the seller, in a private transaction! So you
name and shame your disgruntlement? I guess it's fine to do if it's disguised
as the sentiment "for the good of the community" Disingenuous motivation.

So I guess you're going with the "for the good of the community" sentiment?

Not too transparent, are you?

I'm going to leave you to the likeminded, for now. I feel the need to shower.

You constantly want people to share their opinions in the forum, claiming that
freedom of speech is of utmost importance to you. However, when people share
their opinions and they are not to your liking, you feel the need to disparage
them and belittle their opinions. And I wonder why people don't want to share
their opinions in the forum... SMH

Sharing honest opinions unhindered, I champion. But this mob mentality is something
entirely different. If you can't see that, Randy, or so see it and choose
to conflate the two for your own reasons, do so.

-Cory

How was your shower?

Going to get to it now. Just got back from the gym with my son, is the actual
need for the shower

Remember, exercise is bad for you. It makes you tired and it makes you sweat.

You're are the best, John! Always a smile for others.

I tried to tell my son just that about exercise. He didn't buy. He wants
to bulk up for the ladies this summer

Thank you. I was a runner for many years until I got old. Ran eight marathons
among a great deal of other races. I miss it so much. When the time came I
wanted to die at the hands of some 20 year old’s irate husband while running
away with my clothes in my hands.

Have some online demands of me, then the long hot soaking.

Well not only is your body going but now your mind is going too, you just posted
the same thing twice.

Yes we understand that that may unfortunately be the case and will move forward
if it is. The one thing that would be very handy would be a copy of our inventory.
We have a five week old newborn and are pretty reluctant to start counting :I

Cheers Damien

You can download the inventory of your store as a file and then upload it to
the new store. As long as you can still access the inventory page. My store has
never been locked, so I don't know what you can/can't access.

I would have thought you could download into Brickstock as long as you can sign
into your account also. Same as you though, never been suspended so I don't
know for sure.

I don't think you have access to your inventory when the store is suspended.
You might need to address this to Admin and ask for a go to download the inventory
(preferably via Brickstore) for uploading to your new store.

/Asger

I think you can access your inventory all the normal ways when your store is
suspended, at least from what I remember from when my store was closed because
of being to late in paying my BL fees. Although it might be different when your
suspended for other reasons.

I use goatleg torso identify feature to help me identify used minifigures (goatleg
= lifesaver) but I was wondering if there is a way to refine the search results
by including the theme that the minifigure is associated with.

Example: Let's say I input the colors of black for the torso, arms and hands
into the goatleg banner that appears at the top of the page (when using goatleg)
but I would also like to refine the search when I know for sure what theme the
minifigure torso in question is. This would especially be useful when searching
using colors like black, black and black because the results show 155 different
torsos. So to be able to just see the ones associated with Star Wars or Ninjago
would really be helpful.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

goatleg is a fantastic site, Jim. It's been very helpful

Have you tried Mark’s (mfav) site, using the “Additional keywords” function

http://www.v4ei.com/mini-fig-ure-outer/torso-id.php

The original version of the Goatleg torso search (the one essentially taken and
modified slightly by mfav without credit) had an input for additional terms.
I removed it to streamline the new version that loads the results in a frame.

I just put it back, so you can add terms to narrow it down by theme - sort of.

The caveat is that torso assemblies aren't assigned to themes the way complete
minifigs are, so it only works for assemblies that include the theme in the title
of the part.

Thank you so much for the work you have put forth for all of us that use goatleg
here at BrickLink!

I ESPECIALLY love that you have made it so the search bar now stays at the top
of the page when searching, It is so much more convenient this way not having
to tap on a link to bring back up the search page. Plus, it is nice to be able
to just change one aspect of the search each time you want to look for a different
torso or head.

Please feel free to use the coupon we issued you last year when you brought back
online goatleg.com after it's very short hiatus. I know that there are other
sites that do basically the same thing but I just like yours the best (especially
after the change of anchoring the search bar feature).

Google Chrome is not showing the terms page correctly. Basically what I have
experienced on at least 3 computers is that when going to a store's terms
page much of the information dose not show up under the main headings. The headings
show up but most of what is supplied by each store under each headding is missing
and the amount of information that shows up can vary when hitting the refresh
button.

Internet explorer, Firefox and Opera all seem to be showing all the information
listed on the Terms pages of different stores (including mine), just Chrome seems
affected.
