As a non IC user we are puzzled by this:

How is that we are 2nd to Russell for submitting the most packaging dimensions
to the catalogue? That just doesn't make any sense at all.

With the updates the other day ie11 users looked like they lost the ability to
use the menu system. That, to date has not been fixed - does that mean the end
of IE11 support?

Thanks.

Suggestions over the past 6 years have not been very successful, however we now
have a new 'kid on the block' in charge. Let's see what happens with
this one.
We are all aware of the new Community Expert program that has been introduced
aimed at the technical side of the site e.g. catalogue, inventories etc.

How about adding to that group with a community advisory panel, whose members
could help with the usability testing of new features as well as offering advice
on both direction and functionality for the site.

These would also be volunteers and a method for rotation could be put in place
to ensure no one individual dominated that side.

You could even have regional representation say USA, UK, Europe (or Germany,
France Netherlands, etc). This would help enormously on the variations that are
both desirable and needed for the site, as well as the legal requirements, postal
systems, etc.

It would, of course also help communications and community spirit.

As of the 31st of March 2020, Paypal are insisting you must register a mobile
phone number with them to log into your account.

This is just an extension of the silly bureaucratic security regulations the
intellectuals have brought in to fight fraud.

Bearing in mind that mobile phones are one of the most insecure devices on the
planet, it makes you wonder who makes these things up.

There are articles on the web mentioning this along with several rather tricky
issues such as they can hand your mobile number to debt collectors who are allowed
to use autodial to get in touch. That isn't going to happen, I can assure
you.

Every day - a challenge

It took half a dozen goes to post feedback for a store we bought from on Monday.
Each time we hit the post button it put up the resubmit screen (which is also
a reported bug) and when you hit resubmit it cleared out the feedback and left
you in the initial post screen. Then when you re-did it - it said you couldn't
cause it had already been done.

Frustration, frustration, frustration

Have a heart Bricklink/TLG get these little critters fixed before they grow exponentially
( I think that may have started already)

As if it isn't bad enough having to create your posts offline and add them
to a topic, now the system is so slow it is going backwards - it just took 4.5
minutes to make a change on the order detail page, and loading the forum took
7 minutes.

What with all the bugs flying around we probably need an exterminator not a programmer

There are a great many individuals who have considerable passion for this site.
whether it is for the technical sides of Lego (Catalogue), the comradery, the
stores, the projects, or simply the love of Lego.

There is also the business side – some people earn a living, others do not. Employees
are salaried – some have a passion – others see it as a business which pays their
bills at the end of each month.

I wonder what it does for others or if there is an overall feeling that everyone
has. Those that have been here since Dan started it – took on Eric and worked
with the countless and valuable volunteers that helped to make it the great place
it is today.

The last 6+ years have been – what shall we say – difficult and a challenge unlike
any before. The site lived through it and is now in the hands of Lego, who openly
state they wish to work more closely with the AFOL’s. Could be good news, then
again it may not be – no one really knows at this stage. Early communications
are in a different world to the previous owners, and that is a very good sign.
Successful businesses, relationships etc are built around good communications
in both directions and that has been missing for some time now.

Lots of ‘old timers’ (excuse the expression) have moved on, including large stores
and very active people. Lots of ‘new kids on the block’ have appeared and overall
there are many more stores and members today than at any time previously. I think
it is extremely fair to say that is all down to what Dan created. Yes the site
does need modernising, and hopefully, this time we will actually see that, but
what it doesn’t need is a revolution – more an evolution. If Lego get their feet
under the desks and listen to their members, we may actually see relevant things
happen – time will tell.

It is, however very difficult, if not impossible to run a business like this
as a cooperative – somewhere, someplace someone has to make decisions – some
we will accept, some we will challenge – cooperation is essential and both sides
of the fence need to show compromise in their approaches.

I hope the next 6 years will be vastly different to the last ones and that both
sides can form a very strong relationship which is based on trust and understanding
as well as quality communications.

How is that for a Storm Ciara thought – (It is extremely blustery and there is
lots of water – water everywhere at the moment).

Keep safe

.

Mentioned in one of the AMA responses the idea of a global cart which appears
to be a 'dream' for the current BL team.

What do you think as a buyer/seller?

Our view is it isn't feasible currently and there are far too many issues
associated with it - for example - who gets paid? If you had to use IC, and
we presume that would be the case, someone would have to collect the funds and
distribute them - how would that work?

The buyer is still going to have to pay multiple shipping fees so the only advantage
appears to be they can put everything in one cart?

Interested in stores and buyers views on this.

Wikipedia classes skin colours like this;

The colour game is a minefield of different interpretations on the same colour
and nowhere to be found is any kind of 'standards' for a colour name.
I am sure there must be somewhere but I cannot find them at present.

The mind really does boggle.

This doesn't look anything like the flesh coloured minifig heads and pieces
we have in store.

This is going to be good fun - it really is.

Currently I can find over a dozen different variations on this colour with a
simple Google search. Are we sure we are bringing this in for the correct reasons.

The sales stats for our group of stores for January 2020 is now complete.. Orders
were up on Dec, but continue the drop in overall orders for this year (Jun 2019
to end of May 2020.

Some stores are up (5) and others(8) are down so the situation is not easy to
define precisely. Overall the stores are 12.15% down on last year for the same
period.

Have an idea to expand our internal system for working with Bricklink and in
so doing bring to life an inventory management idea I had some time ago.

I will change the way our current system works to bring about new features and
elements so we can cope with most anything that is thrown at us.

The stock code will now be made up of the main code (Currently design ID from
Lego and of course in most instances the Bricklink part number, and then up to
10 attributes to allow for Condition, colour, etc. I am thinking that one of
those attributes could be location as well as store id; thereby creating a unique
sequence of characters to identify that element.

Using attributes at this stage would replace the lot number currently in use
to mirror Bricklink's rather archaic lot number. Doing it the way we have
in mind would mean that inventory analysis would be easy at the part no, condition
and colour level and depending on what you used the other attributes for - those
as well.

Any thoughts from out there?

By the way - this s not to decry anything that Bricklink might be thinking about,
if they are - this is just for our internal use and stats. If it works we might
listen to making it available to others.

It appears Bricklink or whoever has made some new unannounced changes with regards
to privacy.

We use Brickstock to download all orders and from that downloaded order we had
a template created to print a delivery note/packing slip. This has worked for
several years now and we have shared that template with other sellers who were
interested.

Working on today's orders and printing our normal picking note we find all
the order header information e.g user name, address etc has been blocked and
is no longer available for us to print.

If you are going to make changes, instead of fixing bugs, could you at least
have the courtesy to let the users know so we can make alternate arrangements.

Good grief what in heavens name is going on. The customer placed an order with
us and gave us his name and address details - we wish to print that on our delivery
note and now that information is gone. How is that, or what we do, causing a
privacy problem?

It is bad enough you took away the link to buyers and when they logged in etc,
but this is just silly.
